Box Office Round-Up ~ 4/6/26
Taking advantage of spring break and the Easter weekend, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surged to the top of the box office with the best opening of 2026 so far, grossing $131.7 million over the weekend for a $190 million total since its Wednesday opening last week. It’s already on the cusp of $400 million worldwide, so an overall total over a billion isn’t out of the question when all is said and done.
Project Hail Mary moved to second place with $31.7 million, passing $200 million total in the U.S. after three weekends. Third place saw another new release in A24’s The Drama, starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, which opened with a solid $14.3 million. Hoppers grossed $5.8 million in fourth place, while Reminders of Him rounded out the top five with $2.2 million.
This coming weekend should be Mario and co.’s to lose, with no blockbuster titles hitting the big screen beyond romcom You, Me & Tuscany and a new horror flick in Faces of Death. Outside of perhaps the Michael Jackson biopic Michael on 4/24, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie looks likely to dominate the box office for the entirety of April, up until The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives at the beginning of May.
