Box Office Round-Up ~ 1/5/26

No one’s having a happier New Year than Disney, Fox and James Cameron, as Avatar: Fire and Ash cleared the billion dollar mark worldwide over the first weekend of 2026. It brought in $40 million in the U.S., passing $300 million domestically. As a bonus for Disney, Zootopia 2 also brought in a solid $19 million in its sixth weekend, for a domestic total of $363 million.

The rest of the top five was more or less the same as last weekend, with Marty Supreme and The Housemaid swapping places, with the latter taking third place with $15.1 million and the former in fourth with $12.5 million. They’ve now grossed a respective $56 million and $75 million after three weekends. Anaconda remained in fifth place in its second weekend with $10 million.

Overall it was a very good start to the year at the box office, with a wide array of new movies coming out next weekend and beyond. This coming weekend sees the Gerard Butler-led sequel Greenland 2: Migration, killer chimp horror flick Primate, I Was a Stranger from Angel Studios, and the wide expansion of Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On?
