Box Office Round Up - 6-25-2018
Surprising absolutely no one, Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom stomped and chomped its way to number one at the box office to the tune of $150 million. And while it’s not doing quite as well as its predecessor, it’s still a big achievement for the 25-year-old franchise (especially considering that it was in competition with Incredibles 2). It will be interesting to see how the film fares the rest of the summer, as it will be facing competition from Ant Man and the Wasp, Skyscraper, and Hotel Transylvania 3 next month. Fallen Kingdom has been open in international markets for three weeks so far, and has made $561 million, for a worldwide total of $711 million. The film is sure to be hitting $1 billion very soon. CAA should be very happy with this result as they represent director J.A. Bayona. WME represents Bryce Dallas Howard, and UTA reps Chris Pratt and Daniella Pineda, one of the newcomers to the franchise. Verve reps writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.
In second place with $81 million comes Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2. The film dropped 55% from last weekend, and now has a domestic total of $350 million — which already puts it as one of the top ten animated films of all time, and the fourth largest Pixar release. Worldwide, the film has now made $485 million.
Dropping to third place with $12 million was Ocean’s 8, which domestically has now made $100 million. Worldwide, the film has now made $171 million.
Dropping in to fourth place with $8.2 million is the R-rated action comedy Tag. This puts the film at $30 million domestically.
And staying in fifth place with $5.2 million is superhero sequel Deadpool 2, which has now grossed $304 million domestically and $707 million worldwide.
In sixth place was Solo: A Star Wars Story. Horror drama Hereditary came in seventh, Superfly dropped down into eighth place, while Avengers: Infinity War fell to ninth, and the Mr. Rogers doc, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, expanded into more theaters and came in number ten.
Next Week: Josh Brolin will be featured in his third sequel of the summer with Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and Kyrie Irving will be in a film based on a Pepsi commercial in the comedy Uncle Drew. Will either take the top spot from Jurassic World? Doubtful, but they will try.
